Does drying a phone with rice work?

When you go online and search what to do for a wet cell phone, there is a home remedy that comes up over and over again, rice. Rice is the one thing we hear every day from retailers and other customers, "oh cant you just use rice to dry a wet phone" the answer is simple it doesn't work AT ALL! We tried to dry a phone with rice a few days ago, we left the phone in rice for 48 hrs. when we pulled the phone out it still had moisture dripping out of it. We knew it wasn't dry so we looked at the humidity monitor we put in with the phone and the rice. Here is the crazy thing the moisture level was at 49.5 when we left it enclosed with the rice for 48 hrs the moisture level went up to 58.5. It is crazy that people recommend using rice when it actually not removing moisture at all. Now if only we could become the home remedy every one talks about.
